Glowing mushrooms can be found scattered around the world. They show up deep in the jungles of Brazil and in the forests of North Carolina in the US. They also can be seen in isolated islands off Japan where they are called “ fairies of the forest.”

With so many of these mushrooms in different places, a question remains: why do they glow? According to the latest research, the mushrooms glow to attract insects, which carry the mushrooms’ spores to new locations.
