The Wright
brothers grew up in small towns in Indiana and Ohio. One day, their father
brought home a toy“ helicopter”a fter returning home from a business trip in
1878. The toy was modeled after the aircraft made by French inventor Alphonse
Penaud. It was this toy that inspired their interest in flying.
Years later, the
Wright brothers worked with all types of machinery, from bicycles to printing
presses. They developed the skills and the technical know-how to build the
first fixed-wing airplane.
