Before Buddhism took hold in the Himalayas, a “wild man” of the mountains was respected in the local religion. Some thought the ape-like creature was the god of the hunt.

Others believed the blood of the creature had use in ancient ceremonies. In any case, it was thought that the Yeti carried a large stone for a weapon. When walking, the Yeti was said to sound like the wind.
