In the modern age, Korean chopsticks are mostly made of steel. However, in the past, wealthy Korean families would demonstrate their status by using chopsticks made of gold or silver.

One of the special properties of silver is that it will change color when it comes into contact with a poisonous substance. Long ago, it was not unusual for the enemies of a ruler to add poison to food, so the royal families of Korea used silver chopsticks as a defense against assassins.

現代的韓式筷子大多由鋼所製成。然而，過去富有的韓國家庭會使用金製或銀製的筷子來彰顯自己的地位。
