Times Square Ball Drop萬人齊聚時代廣場降球迎新年

On December 31 in New York City, one million people will gather in Times Square to celebrate the New Year and watch the “ball drop.” This tradition began in 1907, and it was first thought of by the owner of The New York Times. The Times Square ball has been changed seven times.

Each revision makes use of new materials and lighting technology. The current ball is covered with more than 2,000 handmade crystals and over 32,000 LED lights which can be set to display many colors and patterns.

在十二月三十一日這一天的紐約市，百萬人會群聚時代廣場來慶祝新年以及觀賞「降球儀式」。這項傳統始於 1907 年，最初這是由《紐約時報》的老闆所想出來的點子。時代廣場球已被改良了七次。

每次的修改都使用了新的材質及照明科技。目前的球被兩千多顆手工製水晶以及三萬兩千多顆 LED 燈覆蓋著表面，並能被設定呈現出許多顏色及圖樣。
