In late 2009, Taiwanese-American food personality Eddie Huang opened a restaurant in New York City called Baohaus. The number one item on the menu was a fancy gua bao named the Chairman Bao. In San Francisco, Josh Tang launched a food truck named the Chairman Bao Bun Truck that served gua bao.

Huang did what many keyboard warriors do, and on a blog, called Tang out for copying his trademarked name. Eventually, the fight concluded without ever going to court.
