After a fortune in cash was stolen from
President Cyril Ramaphosa’s farmhouse, he kept it secret. Now that word is out,
critics ask what he was hiding.

The burglars cut through a wire fence
around the sprawling property, crept up to a stone farmhouse, climbed through a
window and rifled through the furniture until they found their bounty: a
fortune in U.S. dollars, in cash, said to be in the millions.

The farm’s owner was Cyril Ramaphosa,
president of South Africa, and he never reported the theft, two years ago, to

But now a political rival has, and the
exposure has tumbled Mr. Ramaphosa’s presidency into a full-blown crisis.
