Korea’s strategic value re-rises amid US-China rivalry

In the wake of Joe Biden’s election as the new U.S. president, a competition between the United States and China to get Korea on its side is expected to intensify ― a demonstration of Seoul’s rising strategic value amid their hegemonic rivalry, diplomatic experts said Thursday.

在拜登選上新任美國總統後，預料美、中爭取南韓的角力將會加劇—外交專家週四表示，此乃首爾的戰略價值在美、中爭霸下攀升的證明。

"There is a general consensus on China’s great threat to the U.S. within the Democratic Party and in that respect, the Biden administration is expected to make efforts to have Korea lean toward the U.S. side in its competition against China," said Shin Beom-chul, a researcher at the Korea Research Institute for National Strategy.
